The new home base of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam has won the Geurt Brinkgreve Bokaal 2019. This award is held annually by the municipality of Amsterdam and goes to the best initiative in the field of redevelopment or renovation of Amsterdam. The jury report states: “… The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of the highest level of talent is now housed in heritage that has been transformed at the highest level. The reuse of this building near the Concertgebouw is of real added value for the entire city. It withholds quality in all details. It is impressive and heartwarming. An ode to architect Berlage, a gift to the city, its history, to the users and to the music. ”

This award was held for the fourteenth time. This year, the jury consisted of: Paul van de Laar (chairman), Professor of History of Rotterdam at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and also director of Museum Rotterdam; Patrick van der Klooster, Team Leader City Developers at BPD, the 2018 winner with the Burgerweeshuis, and Janneke Ypma, architect with experience in transformation projects (restoration, renovation and re-use).

The extensive jury reports of the award and the documentation of all buildings completed in Amsterdam in the past year can be found in the publication Built in Amsterdam, Project Book 2018-2019 and www.gebouwdin.amsterdam.nl.
