Social housing project De August has received an honorable mention by the Amsterdam Architecture Prize (AAP) of Arcam / Arcam Architectuur Centrum Amsterdam!
“Cri de Coeur: De August, Team V Architectuur and Ymere
It’s not only new construction that fuels the debate about the city—existing places also play a key role. That’s why, since last year, Arcam has also been placing specific focus on the “lived city.” This year, the Arcam Programming Council gives shape to that focus with a powerful plea for a single nominated project that, in their view, embodies urgency, exemplary quality, and social significance: De August, by Team V Architecture, commissioned by Ymere.
This project demonstrates what social housing can be: affordable, beautiful, safe, and attentive to livability and a sense of community. The Programming Council was impressed by its thoughtful design, warm appearance, and the dignity it offers its residents. In a time of housing shortages, it stands as an inspiring example of how vision and collaboration can make true quality possible—even in public housing.”
The Amsterdam Architecture Prize is hosted by Architectuur Centrum Amsterdam (Arcam) and recognizes outstanding architectural quality and its contribution to the city’s built environment. It celebrates both the architect and the client behind each project.
