The wooden residential building HAUT in Amsterdam has won the prestigious International BREEAM Award 2018 during the awards ceremony in the ExCel Centre in London on the 6th of March. The hybrid timber tower won in the category ‘Homes – Design’.
Groundbreaking design
At 90,8%, HAUT received the highest BREEAM score in its category. The jury agreed that this project significantly pushes the boundaries of high-rise timber modular construction. The focus of the design team on the efficient use of materials and circular economy principles, was considered ‘impressive, innovative and highly replicable’.
Highest timber building in the Netherlands
HAUT is the highest hybrid timber tower in the Netherlands. In 2016, the Municipality of Amsterdam selected the design team (Team V and Arup) and Lingotto to develop this tower, for their vision on future cities, creating a balance between architecture and nature. The construction of the tower is expected to start mid 2018.
Two years in a row
Both Arup and Team V have received the BREEAM Awards last year as well: Team V won the award with the Atlas Building of the Technical University Eindhoven (category ‘Education & Healthcare’), whereas Arup won with the Energy Academy in Groningen (category ‘Mixed Use’).
International BREEAM Awards
The International BREEAM Awards are granted to buildings and professionals, which are performing in the field of sustainability. Nominated based on their BREEAM scores, over 40 projects each year are judged by an expert jury. The winners include the most innovative sustainable buildings globally, from to China to Brazil. The HAUT project was the only Dutch project to win an award at this year’s ceremony.
