We are proud to announce that our senior architect Anne van Schooten has been nominated for the Abe Bonnema Prize for Young Architects 2026 for her work on The August in Amsterdam.
The Abe Bonnema Prize has been awarded annually since 2013. This year, the prize celebrates architects under the age of 40 whose work contributes to innovation and architectural quality in the Netherlands. Anne is one of five architects shortlisted by the independent jury for a building completed in 2024 or 2025. The other nominees are Luïsa Jacobse of buro Kettinghuls with IKC De Zevensprong in Best, Mira Nekova of Time to Access with housing cooperative De Nieuwe Meent in Amsterdam, Anna Tsagkalou of MOR Studio with Baobab in Utrecht, and Daan Vulkers of Unknown Architects with House on a Dune in Midsland on Terschelling.
Designed for housing corporation Ymere, The August provides 175 social housing apartments in Overhoeks, Amsterdam-Noord. The U-shaped building embraces a semi-open courtyard where architecture, landscape and art come together. Rounded corners, pastel colours and playful triangular balconies give the building a soft, distinctive identity. Its efficient, repetitive structure enabled prefabricated construction and created room in the budget for generous entrances, shared spaces and a carefully designed garden with art objects.
The winner will be announced on Friday 4 December 2026 at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, with the ceremony also available to follow via livestream. The award includes a €30,000 prize. We congratulate Anne and the entire project team on this special recognition.
