First timber arrives on Mediavaert construction site

In Amsterdam-Duivendrecht, the first timber components have been mounted for the new head office of DPG Media Nederland, Mediavaert. It is the start of an extensive timber construction consisting of no less than 6,500 m³ of wood. With a floor area of ​​44,000 m², this new center for journalism will be the largest timber-hybrid office in Europe.

The parking garage, ground floor and elevator shafts are constructed from concrete and form the backbone of the complex. From this point, the construction will continue largely in timber, with timber beams, girders and a hybrid-timber floor. The idea is to use wood wherever possible, and steel and concrete where necessary. This leads to a very efficient and sustainable use of materials, less carbon emissions and a rapid construction pace.

From 2024, the new media hub on Van der Madeweg will house various Dutch editorial offices and radio stations, including de Volkskrant, Trouw, Parool, Qmusic and NU.nl. In addition to workspaces, the building offers test labs, recording studios, meeting rooms, restaurants, an espresso bar and a sparkling indoor event facility on the waterfront. The interaction between voids and other shared spaces ensures an open character and plenty of daylight throughout the building. Green areas inside, around, and on top of the building create an inspiring working environment that promotes the well-being and health of all users.

Mediavaert is a development of ‘Being’ commissioned by DPG Media. Team V is responsible for the architectural and interior design, in collaboration with Arup, DGMR and DELVA Landscape Architecture/Urbanism. Drees & Sommer provides quality assurance from realisation to completion. BESIX NL is responsible for the construction. Mediavaert is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
