Date

Atlas, the main building of Eindhoven University of Technology, has been shortlisted for the International BREEAM Awards 2017. This was announced by the Building Research Establishment (BRE). The organization nominated 46 buildings in nine different categories on account of their BREEAM scores.

BREEAM Award Shortlist

With a BREEAM Outstanding score of 93.86% Atlas is shortlisted in the category of Education & Health. The other nominees are four relatively small educational buildings in the UK. Atlas distinguishes itself by the size of the project (41,500 m2), the innovations concerning Smart Building and by focusing on refurbishment and recycling. A judging panel of five independent experts drawn from all parts of the property and construction industry will review the project’s case studies and determine who will win the Award.

Sustainable Renovation

The project’s goal was to create the most healthy and comfortable indoor environment possible with the least possible adverse environmental impact. To achieve this, the multidisciplinary design team deployed the very latest innovations and state-of-the-art materials and techniques in the field of sustainability, including Smart Energy Saving Lighting. The project demonstrates that renovation offers real opportunities to convert old, (partly) vacant premises into high quality modern buildings fully compliant with the requirements of today and tomorrow.

Ceremony

International BREEAM Awards will be presented on March 7, 2017 during the BREEAM Awards Gala at the Marriot Hotel in London.
