HAUT is category winner Best Building of the Year 2023 by the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA)! “For the jury, HAUT is the undisputed winner in the Private Living Experience category, but the project offers more than high quality living. The building is a beacon in the city, contributes to the innovation of timber construction, and thus makes an important contribution to the field and the discussion about carbon-based design.” The Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA) has awarded the prize since 2006 for the building ‘with the most added value for people and society’. This year 109 projects were submitted, of which 11 were nominated.
According to the jury report:
“HAUT pushes boundaries in timber construction.”
“The jury also finds it positive that the construction team shares knowledge with interested parties and peers.”
“In HAUT, the jury sees not only an attractive residential tower, but also a strong urban design gesture and innovation in the field of timber construction.”
“The jury finds HAUT successful on many fronts, and calls the project innovative through the combination of material use, living experience and expression in the city. As a beacon, the building offers a different façade image from different angles, with a wide variety of apartments behind it. The tower is large, but looks elegant with its sharply cut point and staggered balconies, and has a human size. The timber gives atmosphere to the apartments, but is not used dogmatically; HAUT proves that timber construction does not necessarily have to look ‘woody’ – you can go anywhere with it architecturally.”
Thanks to the jury members: Ed Nijpels, Hedwig Heinsman, Desirée Uitzetter, Marianne Loof, Thomas Bedaux, René Scherpenisse.
