The new car park on the north side of Scheveningen harbour, designed by Queeste and Team V, was opened by Q-park at the end of 2023. The garage is part of the redevelopment project Noordelijk Havenhoofd. The three-story car park, with 840 parking spaces, is completely covered by a natural dune landscape. On top of this, there will be an attractive promenade with shops, restaurants, and views of the boulevard and beach.
Entrance with Flowing Lines
Team V was responsible for the design of the entrance and facades of the car park. The entrance is integrated into the dune landscape with a flowing line. A continuous band of light grey concrete effectively lifts the dune, creating a passageway. The facades on either side of the entrance are made of dark grey concrete with vertical grooves. These ‘cannelures’ have varying widths and depths, resembling an abstract representation of dune grass.
Robust Rear Facade
The solid rear facade of the car park, adjacent to the service street, is made of precast concrete. Concrete is well-suited to withstand salt and sand and complements the robust character of the surrounding fishing industry. Although the rear facade is only occasionally visible from the street, this side has also been thoughtfully designed. The facade consists of a grid of smooth concrete, filled with panels of rough-struck concrete. The grid widens with each floor upwards, echoing the facade structure of a city street.
Noordelijk Havenhoofd Scheveningen
The Noordelijk Havenhoofd redevelopment project aims to create space for new employment, businesses, hospitality, and recreation. The development, initiated by collaborating companies in the fish industry, includes over 65,000 m² of new buildings. The plans are being developed by VolkerWessels Vastgoed, in collaboration with the municipality of The Hague. KCAP was responsible for the urban development plan, which is being developed and implemented in phases. Team V is working on three sub-plans: Car Park, Dune, and Boulevard. Previously completed sub-plans include the Inntel Hotel Marina Beach (KCAP), the 3xVIS industrial hall building (Queeste), the boathouse for the rescue brigade, and the catering pavilion next to the entrance of the car park (both by DAVL Studio).
