The last week of May marked Sustainability Week at Team V, dedicated to exploring biobased building practices. Organized by our Sustainability Expert Team, the week was filled with engaging activities, including delicious vegetarian lunches, inspiring lectures, a visit to the biobased Innovation Pavilion at the Amsterdam Marine Area, and a hands-on clay stucco workshop led by Tierrafino.
The week began with an insightful lunch lecture by our colleagues Noortje ter Heege and Marthe Melief, who introduced us to the concepts of circularity and biobased design. They set up an intriguing display of biobased materials on two large tables in the center of our office, sparking curiosity and discussion among our team. On Tuesday, Djordy van Laar and Stef van Bakel from Alba Concepts delivered an in-depth lecture on circularity labels and key measurement tools, such as MKI/MPG, LCA, Paris Proof Indicator, and BCI, providing us with valuable insights into sustainable design metrics.
On Wednesday afternoon, we welcomed a panel of biobased building experts who captivated our attention with their insights: Tjeerd Veenhoven of Studio Tjeerd Veenhoven shared the challenges and innovations in biobased product design, showcasing his passion for inventing new materials and production techniques; Boudewijn Morrien from YOMABOUW and Lorin Brasser discussed the synergy between timber construction and lime hemp; and Peter van Assche of bureau SLA demonstrated how biobased architecture and sustainability can seamlessly integrate.
Overall, it was an inspiring week that deepened our understanding of biobased building practices, leaving us more informed and motivated to implement these sustainable strategies in our work.
The Power of Knowledge Sharing
At Team V, we firmly believe in the power of knowledge sharing. Our team members are organized into expert groups dedicated to topics such as sustainability, computational design, BIM, process management, and technical design. These teams are encouraged to organize lunch lectures and thematic weeks, fostering knowledge exchange within our organization and beyond by inviting external experts. Past themes have included BIM Week and Safety Week, each contributing to our collective growth and expertise.
