Rotterdam CS wins Rotterdam Architecture Award

Date
18 December 2014

On Wednesday, December 17th, Rotterdam Central Station won the jury prize of the Rotterdam Architecture Award 2014. Team CS received the prize at a ceremony in the impressive Burgerzaal of the Rotterdam City Hall.

“Actually, this building deserves a description in mere superlatives,” the jury wrote in their essay ‘Rotterdam makes city’. “Rotterdam is fortunate that (…) a group of expert and enthusiastic designers – Jan Benthem, Adriaan Geuze and Jeroen van Schooten – decided to join forces in the especially formed office Team CS.” Also the exemplary collaboration between the two clients – Municipality of Rotterdam and ProRail – is praised.

The jury concludes: “It is an expressive building with high architectural quality that contributes to the street life of Rotterdam. Its quality is experienced by everyone, both by most cynical architecture connoisseurs and unsuspecting train travelers. (…) A deep bow from the jury.”

The Rotterdam Architecture is organized by Rotterdam Architecture Center AIR and this year’s theme was ‘utility buildings’. The audience prize was won by St. Michaëlschool, designed by DeZwarteHond.
