New Sparrendaal Estate

New Sparrendaal private estate, designed with tremendous attention to detail, is tailored to the exact wishes of its owners. They requested, besides space for living, room for welcoming creatives and culture lovers, to showcase art and to enjoy cultural activities. In response, Team V designed two buildings: a villa to live in and a pavilion containing reception spaces.

Living space

The central villa is prominently clad in basalt panels. Four glazed axes cut through this block, splitting the floor plan into nine spaces, each with its own function and character. These include the main entrance, a foyer and a conservatory where the glazed axes visually connect to the surrounding landscape. The basalt exterior cladding extends inside, making corridors feel like the outdoors. This effect is enhanced by the elongated swimming pool extending from one of the axes.

Art

The rooms and intersecting axes provide generous expanses of wall surface to display the client’s extensive art collection. The art-loving client also invited two artists to each design an interior. Joost van Bleiswijk designed and installed the two-tone parquet flooring in the study, along with his robust ‘no-screw, no-glue’ cabinets made of white and weathered steel. The double-height dining room is the work of Kiki van Eijk. The ultramarine walls and an impressive chandelier of white hand-blown Venetian glasswork mimicking tableware, makes this vibrant space an artwork in its own right.

Pavilion

The separate, secluded pavilion has a plectrum-shaped floor plan consisting of an apartment and two multipurpose spaces. The bright, simple interior is finished in natural materials. All facilities are located behind bamboo room dividers that can rotate or slide to create various spatial configurations. This allows the pavilion to be used for a wide variety of activities, from art exhibitions to yoga lessons, and from working meetings to small recitals.
