The House of Province in Arnhem has been shortlisted for the National Steel Award 2018, in the category ‘Characteristic Steel Building Parts’. The award ceremony will take place on the 3rd of October at Tata Steel in IJmuiden, under the chairmanship of Janneke Bierman (Bierman Henket Architecten) en juryleden Gino Obdam (Vic Obdam Staalbouw), Ad Tissink (Cobouw), Guus Keusters (Heijmans), Xander van Hoof (Delta Development Group), Thijs Huijsmans (Royal HaskoningDHV) en Remko Wiltjer (IMd Raadgevende Ingenieurs).

Surprising is the former courtyard of the House of the Province, which is covered with an innovative plastic roof, made of ETFE air cushions. In order to make as few modifications as possible to the monument, Team V teamed up with SIDstudio and have designed a lightweight construction of rods and cables. The bars all point to the center of the courtyard and have a LED lamp in the ends. It provides an interesting play of form: when you walk through the atrium, the roof keeps looking different. With the roof, the Province not only receives a striking reception hall, it also helps to significantly reduce energy consumption.
