On Friday, July 3rd, the building process of the extension for Hotel Arena in Amsterdam has officially started. In 1888, the foundation stone was laid under the main entrance of the former Saint Elisabeth Institute and now, 127 years later, the ground was broken for the construction of a new west wing designed by Team V. The extension will consist of a new hotel wing and two modern pavilions including a bar and studios for meetings and events.
The expansion of Hotel Arena is closely linked to the project ‘Verdubbeling Oosterpark’ which connects the hotel to the adjoining Oosterpark. Therefore, the main entrance will be shifted to the park and a new outdoor terrace will be built on this side of the hotel.
Most project partners were present during the ground breaking, including the interior designers (TANK), landscape designers (Buro Sant en Co), project managers (Van Rossum, Van den Berg Group, SKEPP) and the contractor (De Nijs).
