New skyline on the Amsterdam IJ takes form

The preliminary design of two iconic towers along the Amsterdam IJ was presented today. The building will be located next to the EYE Film Institute and the A’DAM Tower. The first tower will house the congress hotel Maritim Amsterdam. The second tower is a residential tower. The project, comprising of approximately 600 hotel rooms and approximately 200 residences, has been designed by Team V Architecture and will be developed by the Austrian project development team IES, APM & partners in collaboration with renowned local partners such as Lingotto. The project is expected to be delivered in 2018.

Lively meeting point for residents, visitors and neighbourhood

The towers are situated at the centre of an ensemble of six towers located on a narrow strip along the Northern IJ bank. The strip is at a square angle to the IJ, with the famous A’DAM Tower at the head. It was a conscious choice to make the lower levels of the building accessible to the public. With conference facilities for up to 4,750 people, the future Maritim Hotel will be the largest convention hotel in The Netherlands as well as the biggest in the Maritim chain. Thanks to the various bars, restaurants and a luxury wellness oasis this complex will be a lively meeting point for both visitors and the people of Amsterdam.

Dr. Monika Gommolla, owner of the Maritim Hotel Company and Chair of the Supervisory Board: “One important strategic goal is to further expand our market presence in Europe’s major cities. In this respect, we have made a decisive step forward.”

Two towers connected, each with its own unique character

Team V Architecture’s design consists of two towers connected by four transparent layers from the ground up. The two towers each have their own unique look and feel; the 110-meter high hotel tower being transparent, vertical and with a high attention to detail. The design of the hotel tower is robust yet generous, allowing it to blend in beautifully with the ensemble of towers along the river IJ. The residential tower, on the other hand, is quite expressive. Its differentiating horizontal bands of light coloured natural stone create depth, relief and cantilever out to form large outdoor terraces. Large windows offer each apartment impressive views over Amsterdam and the river IJ.

Do Janne Vermeulen, Team V Architecture: “It’s very special to contribute to the skyline of Amsterdam and the development of the Northern bank of the river IJ with this project and this team.”

Living in the Amsterdam skyline

The aim is to create a rich residential building with excellent outdoor areas and maximum use of the views over the river and the city. The residential tower offers a wide range of apartments in various sizes, including penthouses, spacious family apartments, apartments for first time owners and serviced apartments. In total, the 100-meter high tower will house approximately 200 apartments.
