After a public selection procedure, Team V Architectuur and real estate developer AM have been selected by the Municipality of Amsterdam to design a multifunctional building on Kop Zuidas. Team V Architectuur’s proposal entitled ‘CROSSOVER’ presents a multifunctional and innovative new building on the Amsterdam Zuidas.

CROSSOVER, which will comprise of new housing and office space, will stand at the corner of the exit A10 South and the Europaboulevard. The project, together with its neighbouring buildings, Amsterdam RAI Hotel by OMA and the new head office of  Suitsupply (BIG), will provide a further boost to the eastern part of Amsterdam Zuidas. Team V aims to create connections between function, environment and people by creating a dynamic multifaceted building incorporating spacious green terraces. Though complex and varied, the building is read as a cohesive whole due to the cleverly designed brick façade grid. Its completion is expected in 2021.

David van Traa, director of Zuidas: “We have set high standards for the development of this location with strong ambitions in the area of sustainability and architecture together with the mix of homes, offices and facilities. We are very pleased with the submission by AM, the real estate developer, and Team V Architectuur. They have found a very good solution to the ambitions we have as a city. In the next phase we will join forces for further development of the project”.

Meeting and diversity at the center

Within CROSSOVER, multiple communal spaces are created for co-living, co-working and co-creating. These generous open social spaces offer opportunities for connections and collaboration. The project has been developed with a diverse target group of young creatives, students and refugees in mind.

The proposal provides two hundred and fifty homes, more than half of which are allocated for social housing, as well as ten start-up homes. The plinth provides a public area for the neighbourhood residents, where space has also been provided for a catering facility and an area for creative entrepreneurs to develop their businesses. The building also provides almost 5,500 square meters of traditional office space as well as flexible workplaces for start-ups, scale-ups and freelancers.

The first step towards a green neighborhood
In the coming years, the Kop Zuidas district will continue to develop into a lively and sustainable neighborhood. This mixed neighborhood will provide offices, businesses, small-scale (neighborhood-oriented) facilities and many new homes. CROSSOVER is the first step in this development. Great consideration has been given to create a sustainable design, one which aims to meet a BREEAM Outstanding label, making it the most sustainable mixed-use building in the Netherlands.

Zuidasdok
CROSSOVER is the third project of Team V Architectuur on the Zuidas. The New University building is currently under construction at the VU University Campus. Team V is also involved in the Zuidasdok as architect, which includes tunneling under the A10 and the renewal of Station Zuid. When the new tunnel is finished, CROSSOVER is one of the last buildings along the A10 that travelers see before continuing their journey underground.
